Digital x-ray

We are pleased to be using the Dexis digital x-ray system - the highest quality digital x-ray system on the market.  Digital x-rays give a more accurate diagnosis, quicker and with far less radiation.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera (IOC) is a camera about the size and shape of an oversized pen. Real-time video and color pictures taken by an IOC allow patients to see for themselves what is going on in their mouths and with their teeth and make informed decisions about what to do.

A panorex is an imaging machine that is capable of identifying many issues and structures that a normal x-ray is not. The Panorex will rotate around your entire head taking a full 360-degree view of the teeth, head, sinuses and bones.

This full view allows us to see any potential problems as it is capable of viewing specific types of structural problems, infections or asymmetry among many others.  This way we can see if everything is as it should be.

Endodontic Therapy

Endodontic therapy, or root canal procedure, involves removing the infected or dead dental pulp in the tooth and filling it to strengthen the tooth and restore functionality. Additionally, following root canal therapy, the tooth will need to be fitted with a new crown or cap, to protect the treated tooth.

Root canal treatment is completed in one or two office visits, depending on the presence of infection and the required treatment plan. After restoration, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth. With good oral hygiene, the restored tooth has the potential to last a lifetime.

Root canal therapy is necessary when decay, trauma, or infection causes such extensive damage to the tooth structure that the internal nerve of the tooth has become affected. The development of root canal therapy, however, allows the tooth to be preserved thus avoiding extraction of the tooth.

When it comes to your oral health, the best way to protect your smile is through preventative care. We’re responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide variety of conditions, disorders, and diseases affecting the teeth, gums, and face.

At Taconic Dental Arts, we offer various general dentistry services, such as:

  • Dental checkups
  • Dental cleanings
  • Root canal therapy

In some cases, oral surgery is the best option for restoring our patient's oral health. Oral surgery is a branch of dentistry that deals with conditions of the jaw and mouth structures requiring a surgical procedure.

At Taconic Dental Arts, we feature the following oral surgery options:

  • Wisdom Teeth Extraction
  • Extraction Site Preservation
  • Bone Grafting

Sealants are a great way to protect against tooth decay and cavities on your back teeth (molars). These are the teeth that are most vulnerable to cavities and decay because they are used in the chewing process, and are the most difficult to reach and clean. Molars first come in at around 5-7 years of age, with a second set coming in between the ages of 11-14. It is best to have a sealant placed when the molars first come in to ensure they are protected early. To place a sealant an adhesive is first applied to the teeth. The sealant is then placed over the adhesive as a liquid, as if it is painted right onto the tooth. The liquid then hardens and creates a barrier between your tooth and any plaque, food particles, and bacteria. Sealants last for about 10 years and can be reapplied if necessary.

Mouth Guards

Mouth guards are an essential piece of equipment in contact sports. They should be worn by athletes of all ages who participate in sports such as:

  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Lacrosse
  • Wrestling
  • Basketball
  • Baseball/Softball
  • Soccer
  • …any sport where contact is a possibility.

Wearing a mouth guard helps prevent against structural damage to your teeth and jaw and also helps prevent injuries such as lacerations to your cheeks, tongue, and lips. Mouth guards have also been shown to help decrease the risk of concussions.

Mouth guards are available in most any sporting goods store, but you should be careful when purchasing a mouth guard. Mouth guards like this do not offer the best level of protection. They are also usually ill-fitting and uncomfortable.

For the highest level of comfort and protection, contact our office to schedule an appointment for  your custom mouth guard fitting.. A custom mouth guard is created specifically for the optimal protection of YOUR mouth. It is created with thin plastic that is hardened to protect your teeth. The thinness of the custom mouth guard allows for easy breathing and also allows for easy communication (especially important for you star quarterbacks calling out the signals).

Contact us today for a custom mouth guard to protect your teeth and ensure that you maintain the highest level of performance on the field, court, or rink.
